Diamond Studs: Baseball’s Hottest (Looking) Players
Baseball’s Hottest (Looking) Players – 2011
Two years ago, thanks to feedback from our female readers and our Twitter fans, we compiled our first ever Baseball’s Hottest (Looking) Players for 2009. Still today, our page showing some of baseball’s sexiest players is still one of our most popular pages. In fact, it only falls behind our annual Baseball’s Hottest Wives competition as the most consistently popular feature of our site. So much for our in-depth fantasy baseball coverage; in the end, it’s always sex that sells.
Our Female Readers Favorite Position
As for what “position” our female readers like, they overwhelmingly like to play the field. An amazing 28 outfielders were nominated by our readers. The second most popular place women want to be is second base; a dozen keystoners were nominated by our passionate female readers. Pitchers were not as well represented as they should be, probably because they only get on the field once every fifth day. Relievers were even more miffed with only 3 total relievers mentioned; not surprisingly all were closers. As for catchers, it was easy to pick our starting fantasy lineup: only two catchers not named Mauer was named.
One interesting omission from the list was New York Yankees’ third baseman Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod got more negative press than any other MLB player. His credentials are certainly worthy. In addition to being handsome, he currently dates Cameron Diaz which places him in a near Jeter-esque category. It must have something to do with A-Rod’s less than altruistic actions in the past few years. One reader, Jill Traficante said: “A-Rod is hot, but don’t feed his ego by including him on your list or you’ll lose all credibility.”
As a straight man, one of the things that continues to amaze me in women’s selection of hot looking men is the variation in their selections. Some seem to like the pretty boy types like Cole Hamels, others like the rugged look of Josh Hamilton, or the freaky looking Tim Lincecum, while still others like the exotic look of Ichiro Suzuki.
When it comes to guys, we tend to amazingly predictable. I’m sure there isn’t a single male reader of Fantasy Baseball Dugout that doesn’t think that Orioles’ second baseman Brian Roberts has an incredibly hot wife in Diana Roberts.
Here are just a few comments from the female readers of Fantasy Baseball Dugout:
David Wright, New York Mets “His amazing smile and physique are unmatched! He’s my favorite!” — Melissa Pauls, Frost Valley YMCA Jacoby Ellsbury, Boston Red Sox “He’s adorable. His best move ever was stealing home against the Yankees 2 years ago. If that doesn’t make him the hottest baseball player alive today… — Laura Beck, Too Short Industries Russell Martin, New York Yankess “Not only is he a good looking man, but I’ve loved him ever since he was at bat and was deliberately hit with the ball dangerously close to his head. He walked to first. That was much classier than starting a fight.” — Tracy Gibb, Less Than Perfect Parents Brennan Boesch, Detroit Tigers “Beyond being dreamy, the boy can hit. And, the boyfriend has given me the thumbs up for inappropriate activity with him were it ever to happen. (So, if Brennan gets to read this, feel free to tell him there’s a pretty 25-year-old in Seattle who would make a trip out west totally worth his while.)” [Editor's Note -- that's Jaime's quote Mr. Boyfriend, not mine] — Jaime Palmucci, Debutante Media
So, without further ado, here is our fantasy baseball lineup of the fantasy baseball team that our female readers would most like to hit a homerun with.

Joe Mauer — Baseball’s Sexiest Player
As for the player named the most on our ballots and tweets, it was not Derek Jeter as it was in 2009. Perhaps, ladies pulled away from the serial dater and wedding breaker-upper. The hottest player, according to our female readers, is Joe Mauer.
Must have something to do with his great hair.
