Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Third Base
It is the opinion of Fantasy Baseball Dugout that third base is the elite position in fantasy baseball 2008.
Despite having so much top talent at the top of the heap, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees starts the season as the number one player at the hot corner.
It’s tough to argue against A-Rod because his 2007 MVP season was so spectacular - .314 average on 183 hits, 54 homeruns, 156 RBI, 143 runs, even 24 steals.
Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers and David Wright of the New York Mets are right below A-Rod in the pecking order of fantasy baseball third baseman, but neither puts up numbers across the board that are as great as A-Rod’s from last season. Arguments could be made for both Miggy and D-Wright that they could be taken in the top five picks of any league’s draft in 2008. In NL-only leagues, David Wright should garner serious consideration as the no. 1 overall pick.
Even though it is public knowledge that Ryan Braun is going to move to left field this season for the Milwaukee Brewers, he will maintain third base eligibility for 2008. Top third base prospect Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays has recently been demoted to AAA Durham to start the season, so keep that in mind while assessing his value in your league.
