Tim Lincecum is going to be fine. Earlier this week, Tim Lincecum righted his ship with a strong 7 inning performance in which he allowed just 3 hits against the Minnesota Twins.
Through The Freak’s first four starts of June, he struggled mightily. Lincecum was 0-2 with a 7.59 ERA while teammate Ryan Vogelsong continued to make a surprise run as possibly being the National League’s all star game starting pitcher.
There were several theories as to Lincecum’s recent poor performance. Some blamed it on his getting used to Eli Whiteside as his battery mate after Buster Posey’s disastrous season ending injury. Others suggested that Lincecum had been smoking a little bit too much weed; of course, people have been saying that about guys with long hair since the 60′s.
Lincecum was not great last year in August either, but he came back strong in September and guided the Giants to the World Series championship. And, looking ahead at the schedule, you have to like The Freak’s upcoming opponents. He’ll pitch next against the Cubs, then the Padres and Mets.
Despite the recent rotten performances, Lincecum is still working on a great season. In 16 starts, he’s 6-6 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Lincecum is still an all star candidate for the 2011 season. So, if you can find a manager who is doubtful about his future, make the trade.
Just don’t freak out about Tim Lincecum just yet.
