If you drafted Francisco Liriano early in the season, you likely have dumped him by now. He was awful with an ERA above 7.00 just a month ago.
Then, he tossed baseball’s first no-hitter of the season. And, for 7 innings on Sunday, he almost became the first player to toss 2 no-nos in the same season since Nolan Ryan. He ended the day with 8 IP, 2 hits, and 9 K’s. A half hour stint on the bench in the home 7th probably didn’t help Liriano when he went back to the mound against the Rangers and yielded his first hits of the day in the 8th.
Liriano is on a roll. And, he’s not as owned as you’d probably think. In ESPN leagues, Liriano is owned less than 80% and in Yahoo, he is owned by 81% of fantasy baseball leagues. So, this gem on a dismal Twins team just might be available on your waiver wire if you act quickly.
And, you should be feeling it for Liriano. His next start is against the punchless Padres. He then will have to go up against the Brewers, but if you are seeking a pitcher for the short haul or the long haul, consider Francisco Liriano. He’s a hot commodity right now.
