Kelli Pedroia is an avid supporter of the Melanoma Foundation of New England. While growing up in Chicago’s harsh winters, Kelli spent a lot of time beginning at age 14 at tanning parlors. At age 18, upon a return from the Cayman Islands, Kelli discovered that she had stage two melanoma cancer. Fortunately, the growth was removed and now Kelli is an advocate of teens not visiting tanning parlors as studies show that 20 minutes in a tanning booth emits 6x the radiation levels of spending 3 hours on the beach without sunscreen.
Today, if you see Kelli at Fenway Park, you will see her with a floppy hat and large sunglasses to protect herself from the sun’s harmful rays. That’s sun rays, not the ones from Tampa Bay.
