Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2011: Starting Pitchers

The upcoming free agency period makes ranking starting pitchers heading into 2011 a little tough (although not as tough as in previous years).

Why? Because if we knew exactly where Cliff Lee was going to be playing next season, we could rank him accordingly. Our gut instinct is to safely say Lee will be a top 10 fantasy pitcher no matter where signs – and we’re pretty sure that’s a safe bet. Until he signs a contract, however, we can’t really rank him appropriately.

While we love Lee and look forward to learning where he will be pitching in 2011, the guy he got traded for last season tops our list of pitchers for 2011 – Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies. Halladay had a spectacular 2010 season – his first in the NL – winning the Cy Young and throwing a perfect game on May 30 against the Florida Marlins. He finished 2010 21-10 with a 2.44 ERA, 219 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.04 in 250.7 innings.

UPDATE: Because of his recent season ending Tommy John surgery, our former no. 2 pitcher has been removed from our listing. Click here for Adam Wainwright fantasy advice for those of you who already own him in keeper leagues.
