2011 First Base Rankings

Fantasy Baseball First Base Rankings

In fantasy baseball, like in real baseball, first base is a power position. Home runs, tons of RBI, and runs scored are a requirement. Perhaps besides starting pitcher, first base is the second deepest talent position in fantasy baseball. If you can’t get a first base man that hits over 25 home runs with 100 RBI, your league is probably the lamest in history.

Over the last six seasons or so, one man has towered over his peers at first base. In most cases, that same player towers over the entire player universe in fantasy baseball. There are plenty of talented fantasy baseball first base men, but only one can be “The Machine” – Prince Albert Pujols.

Albert Pujols, our two-time fantasy baseball MVP and no. 1 overall player in all of fantasy baseball coming into 2010 finish didn’t finish last season as the top overall player… but he still remains a lock as the no. 1 fantasy baseball first base man based solely on his consistency. He’s the only player in baseball history to have managed at least a .300 batting average, 30 home runs, 100 RBIs and 99 runs scored in each of his first ten big-league seasons. Pujols finished second in the NL MVP vote in 2010… but he’s one of the few players that is good for MVP-caliber production EVERY SEASON… and that’s why we love us some Pujols.

How is it possible that Pujols continues to get better, each season? Whatever thoughts you may have on that issue, keep all steroid talk AWAY from earshot of Pujols. Otherwise, Darth Pujols will be forced to use his version of the Vulcan Death Grip on you (Brad Lidge knows the feeling all too well).

2011 Fantasy Baseball First Base Rankings

One of the main reasons Pujols is so much better than the other sluggers at his position is because he is consistently good every month of the season. Players like Ryan Howard, Mark Teixeira, and Miguel Cabrera are statistically great fantasy baseball first basemen, but they tend to start slow. As the weather warms, however, their bats pick up and they produce big numbers for their fantasy owners.

Starting with Albert Pujols and working down the list from there, Fantasy Baseball Dugout has ranked the top 25 first base man heading into the 2011 fantasy baseball season.
