USA Today reported on Tuesday that Stephen Strasburg will make his major league debut on June 4, 2010. The Washington Post also reported that Strasburg will join the Nationals on June 4.
Not so fast, according to General Manager Mike Rizzo who bristled at the announcements, according to a story in Nationals Journal.
“That hasn’t been decided yet, although you did announce that he’s pitching on the 4th,” Rizzo said. “No, that hasn’t been determined yet. There are factors that will be involved when we announce it. And even when we announce it, it’s not going to be settled on until after a couple days after he starts his last start in Triple A.”
The Washington Examiner reports that June 8 is the magical date when he’ll face the Pirates in a Saturday night start.
Whatever the date, Stephen Strasburg will be here soon and fantasy baseball managers are already drooling as much as Washington Nationals fans are.
By the way, the author happened to be in our nation’s capital today and at Union Station, there are two Nationals jerseys for sale — Ryan Zimmerman and Stephen Strasburg. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a player with a jersey for sale who had never appeared in an MLB game! When I asked which jersey was selling better, the clerk replied “Strasburg’s.”
