Preseason/Week 1 MLB Power Rankings

As mentioned in a previous post, Fantasy Baseball Dugout is participating in Yardbarker’s Blogger Poll for MLB Power Rankings in 2010. In addition to ranking each MLB team 1-30, we are also tasked with providing analysis all year on the closely competitive AL West.
See below for our full preseason team rankings. All links below point to our archive pages devoted to each particular team linked. Go there to find blog posts relating to each club.
Our analysis of each AL West team is also spread throughout this blog post.
Nothing too fancy to start the season. Yanks and Phils finished 2010 at the top of the heap, and we predict they both will once again return to the World Series… so they start the year at no. 1 and no. 2, respectively.
After reading these rankings, we know you will want to pick us apart for some of them. Feel free to voice your concern over these rankings in the comments below.
- New York Yankees
- Philadelphia Phillies
- Boston Red Sox
- St. Louis Cardinals
- Tampa Bay Rays
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Colorado Rockies
- Seattle Mariners: The bullpen roster doesn’t provide much faith. On paper, the M’s start as best in the AL West.
- Detroit Tigers
- Minnesota Twins
- New York Mets
- Los Angeles Angels: Lost a lot of ground to the rest of the AL West. Will be a good race between them and the Mariners.
- San Francisco Giants
- Atlanta Braves
- Florida Marlins
- Texas Rangers: Improved team in 2010, but health is going to be critical to success. If healthy – it’s a three team race. Injuries clearly keep this team as 3rd best, however.
- Cincinnati Reds
- Chicago Cubs
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Chicago White Sox
- Arizona Diamondbacks
- Washington Nationals
- Oakland Athletics: They have good pitching, and they’re gonna need it with that lineup.
- Pittsburgh Pirates
- Baltimore Orioles
- Kansas City Royals
- Toronto Blue Jays
- Houston Astros
- Cleveland Indians
- San Diego Padres

Looks good for the most part. I'd personally rank the Twinkies ahead of the Tigers, Giants below the Marlins, and Reds over the Braves.

I believe the Tigers got younger and better in the offseason by adding Scherzer to the rotation and Jackson to the outfield. Losing C-Grand sucks, but adding Damon to the top of the lineup will make that loss not as drastic.
Giants don't have the hitting. Reds don't have the pitching.
