Heidi DeRosa, a former fashion model and winner of Fantasy Baseball Dugout’s 2008 Hottest Wife In Baseball Contest, received 63% of the vote in 2009, repeating in a landslide victory as winner of our 2009 Hottest Baseball Wife Vote.
DeRosa, wife of St. Louis Cardinals Utility Infielder Mark DeRosa, jumped out to an early lead on the support of Cardinals fans and listeners of KHITS 96, a radio station in St. Louis. Listeners and blog readers of Captain Carl’s “BLARRRG” rallied listeners/Cardinals fans to vote in massive numbers. By the time the dust settled on the ballot stuffing from KHITS listeners, DeRosa’s lead was insurmountable.
Jordan Schneider, wife of New York Mets catcher Brian Schneider, pulled away from the rest of the wives in the second half of the voting period to finish as runner up. Schneider’s success came on the strength of text message voting (she had 68%), provided by mobile marketing site 84444.com, and the support of Mets fans who needed a distraction after their team fell out of contention with a 12-14 July record. Olympic Gold Medalist Misty May-Treanor – wife of Detroit Tigers catcher Matt Treanor – finished third overall, but only managed 4% of the overall vote.
Text message voting and online voting yielded significantly different results in this year’s contest. DeRosa, Schneider, and May-Treanor were the top three vote getters online. In contrast, Schneider, Anna Benson, and Diana Roberts were the top three vote getters by text message (Benson received 18% of texts, Roberts received 6%). Both Benson and Roberts received only 2% of the online vote.
In 2008, DeRosa won the contest with only 33% of the text-message only vote, followed by Jamie Kotsay and Lisa Podsednik. Kotsay and Podsednik received 2% and 3% of the vote in 2009, respectively.
Last year, a page was created a devoted to the gorgeous wives of Major League Baseball players – and you guys finally took notice of the fantasy baseball advice we were giving! After we created a bunch of profiles of these hott wives and you guys kept reading, we decided to let you guys have the final say in who truly is baseball’s hottest wife.
Thanks for your interest and support the last two seasons. We will definitely be doing this contest again in 2010.
