- @fakebaseball agreed. Elvis Andrus becomes an instant fantasy baseball sleeper if Young is traded.
Elvis Andrus was traded to the Texas Rangers in the deal that sent Mark Teixeira packing to Atlanta. At the time of the trade, he was considered one of the Braves’ top prospects. Each of the last two seasons, he has played in the Futures All-Star Game.
With rumors swirling that Michael Young has requested a trade, Andrus has to be in the plans to take over at shortstop for the Rangers NOW if Young is traded. In AA last season, Andrus batted .295 with 4 homeruns, 65 RBI, 82 runs and 54 stolen bases.
Fantasy baseball owners can’t be impressed by his obvious lack of power, but his batting average showed considerable improvement last season. Also, that stolen base total is not a typo… he stole 54 in 2008.
Andrus could be a nice late round sleeper for speed in 2009. Keep an eye on Young’s trade and Andrus’ status as the Rangers shortstop over the next few months.
