Tuesday, the Reds confirmed rumors that Bailey will take the mound for his season debut Thursday at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia against the Phillies and their young ace, Cole Hamels.
In nine starts last season, Bailey went 4-2. However, he had a ridiculously high ERA (5.76), a WHIP over 1.50, and struck out only 28 in 45.3 innings. Bailey also walked 28.
With the early season success of Cueto and the dominance of Volquez, it’s hard to argue against adding Bailey. However, with his rocky success last season, we recommend resisting the urge to add Bailey until he shows he’s ready to deliver consistent pitching performances.
