Kevin Kernan of the New York Post confirmed this morning on ESPN First Take that the official decision has come down from the New York Yankees front office that setup man Joba Chamberlain will join the Yankees rotation.
Kernan speculated that Joba’s first start could come in three weeks when the Yanks travel to Oakland, June 10 – 12, to play a three game set against the Athletics at the McAfee Coliseum. His following probable starts would then come against San Diego in the Bronx and on the road at Pittsburgh over the following two weeks.
Joba, Fantasy Baseball Dugout’s favorite Cornhusker, currently has fantasy value in all leagues that count holds in their statistics. However, he has failed to live up to his billing as the no. 1 prospect/sleeper pick in the American League this season because he has not been a member of the rotation.
On the year, Chamberlain is 1-2 with 10 holds, a 2.66 ERA, and 25 strikeouts in 20.3 innings. If you have been storing Joba on your bench all season waiting for his arrival in the rotation, you’ve now only got about three weeks to go.
At the same time, Joba owners must keep in mind that his trade value could peak over the next three weeks.
