Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers - Week 6
Quality starting pitching is essential to winning in fantasy baseball. If you have a pitcher that hasn’t been carrying their weight, consider adding a starting pitcher who will make two starts in week six.If the pitcher you consider isn’t at the top of the rankings, there’s often a chance he’ll throw at least one good game out of the two he is probable to start. Worst case, a pitcher with two starts will generally keep a lower ERA and bring in more strikeouts, which could save owners in weekly head-to-head matchups.
Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Boston Red Sox, who is 4-0 with a 2.52 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 35.7 innings, tops our list of two-start fantasy baseball pitchers in week six. Other “must starts” include:
- Fausto Carmona, Cleveland Indians
- Javier Vazquez, Chicago White Sox (FBD Week Two Pitcher of the Week)
- Ervin Santana, Anaheim Angels
- Chris R. Young, San Diego Padres
The Sunday Special - Two two-start pitchers that should impress you with their performances in week six:
- Dana Eveland, Oakland Athletics. Eveland felt a twinge in his elbow Wednesday night against the Angels, his worst outing of the season in which he took the loss and gave up six runs in 5.3 innings. Week six is an easy two-win opportunity for Eveland - his next start is Monday at home versus Baltimore and Garrett Olson. His second start is Sunday at Texas against Sir Sidney Ponson. Eveland’s last start was his only appearance this season in which he gave up more than three earned runs, and he is currently 3-2 with an ERA of 3.67 and 26 strikeouts in 34.3 innings.
- Gavin Floyd, Chicago White Sox. Floyd is not a pitcher who dominates on the mound, but he still manages to keep runs off the board and win games. Similar to Eveland, Floyd has only given up more than three runs in one start. His week six matchups are Tuesday versus Nick Blackburn and the Minnesota Twins and Sunday at Seattle versus Miguel Batista. On the year, Floyd is 3-2 with a 3.16 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 31.3 innings of work. Don’t expect high strikeout numbers from Floyd, but he can get bring your team victories and lower your ERA.
Waiver Wire Wonder (One two-start pitcher owned in less than 40% of fantasy baseball leagues to consider in week six):
- Shawn Hill, Washington Nationals. Following a rocky season debut on April 19, Hill has been excellent on the mound for the Nationals. He has yet to pick up a decision for the season, but in his last 13 innings of work, he has struck out six and allowed only three earned runs. In his latest outing 4/30 versus Atlanta, Hill only struck out one batter in eight innings of work, but also only allowed one earned run. His scheduled starts in week six come Tuesday at Houston against Jack Cassel and Sunday at home against Florida and Scott Olsen. At least one win seems on the way for the Nats ace. On the season, he is 0-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 18 innings of work.
