On Opening Day, BatBoy BeeZee, Fantasy Baseball Dugout’s “expert analyst,” predicted that Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds would win National League Rookie of the Year.
Through three weeks of the season, Justin Upton of the Arizona Diamondbacks is making BeeZee look absolutely foolish for making that prediction.
Votto hasn’t been a slouch, by any means. He’s currently batting .333 with two homers and eight RBI over his last ten games. But Upton has been absolutely ridiculous to start the season.
Similar to what big brother B.J. of the Tampa Bay Rays did early last season, Justin Upton is tearing up Major League pitching to start the season. He’s started every game for the Dbacks going into Saturday, and is hitting at a torrid .377 clip with five homeruns and 13 RBI. For a player who wasn’t even a guarantee to start the season in the big leagues, Upton is having a spectacular start to the year.
From a fantasy standpoint, if Justin Upton is still available in your league, he is currently a MUST ADD. His average will certainly drop back down to earth, but the Diamondbacks have shown an ability to consistently score runs this year, which they didn’t last season. With their excellent pitching staff, they have put together a team capable of being the NL’s best.
At least Upton’s torrid start is making one of BeeZee’s predictions look good — the Arizona Diamondbacks representing the National League in the World Series. Thanks J-Up.
