The Philadelphia Phillies have had a busy offseason… and they aren’t done yet.
ESPN was the first to report this evening that the Phils have reached an agreement with free-agent third baseman Pedro Feliz.
Feliz has put together four-consecutive 20-homer seasons in hitter-friendly San Francisco, but had limited lineup protection. Lineup protection will not be a problem in Philadelphia.
During the offseason, the Phils have also added outfielders Geoff Jenkins and So Taguchi to a lineup that already featured fantasy superstars Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and NL MVP Jimmy Rollins. The Phillies also traded for inconsistent closer Brad Lidge during the Hot Stove season.
Feliz will bat in the bottom part of the order in Philadelphia, but with the short porch in right field at Citizen’s Bank Park, Feliz is certainly capable of having a career year (with respect to his power numbers) in 2008. In NL-leagues, he will be a solid 3B option in 2008.
Don’t bank your entire fantasy baseball season on his bat, but consider Feliz a solid late-round draft choice with potential for a “breakout season” in 2008 mixed leagues.
The signing of Pedro Feliz drops the limited value of other Phillies 3B candidates like Wes Helms to nada.
